Janelle Monae is going to be a star.
I have to give credit to my friend Sam for turning me on to this, but the more I've watched it, the more convinced I am that Janelle Monae is going to be a huge star. I'm not sure if this record will get her there, but she'll get there eventually - she just has too much of that intangible star power to ignore for long. She can dance, she can sing, and she's beautiful in a completely unique, odd way. I love it.
I think the song below is better - it is what got her the deal with Bad Boy Records. And it sounds like a lost Michael Jackson tune to me.

top song: the vocal riff was lifted from sesame street's "pinball song"! (aka the "1-2-3-4-5, 6-7-8-9-10, 11-twe-e-e-e-e-e-lve" song). second song: nice acid jazz, could hang with the brand new heavies, cfm band, etc.
i can't say that i really "get" her, then again i'm not huge on outkast either... but yeah, she's got huge star potential.
